DW Releases GRPS Product

DW International Ltd offers a GPS RAIM Prediction Service (GRPS) to airline operators. The service can deliver RAIM prediction data on an as-required basis for a specified set of airports and can also provide RAIM predictions for pre-defined routes.

GRPS uses the latest constellation almanacs and NANUs supplied by the US Coastguard to calculate the RAIM prediction and is therefore able to include short-notice and planned outage information.

In setting up the service for RNP APCH predictions the operator specifies airport, masking angle, minimum RAIM window, range from the airport and use of baro-aided or non-baro-aided GNSS receivers. The predictions are then transmitted daily at the specified time in an agreed format. Currently clients receive the prediction by e-mail or ARINC Type B message over AFTN but the delivery can be tailored to fit in with the operator's requirements, including direct communication with flight planning systems.

Route predictions are generally expected to be linked to requests from flight planning systems, but could be provided as an ad hoc service, should this be necessary.

The service is global and is easily scalable, making it accessible to both domestic and international operators. Charges are based upon the volume of RAIM predictions required.

Air France is one of the first operators to adopt GRPS as part of its flight planning procedures.

FAS DB Tool Released

DW, under contract to EUROCONTROL, has released the new online Final Approach Segment (FAS) Data Block (DB) tool to support the implementation of approach procedures using SBAS or GBAS. The tool generates a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) integrity code based upon FAS data which is input by the user. The input process also includes a data validation check. It is intended that the tool be used by procedure designers developing APV approaches using SBAS and Cat I approaches using GBAS and also by other software developers wishing to verify the output from their own FAS DB CRC generator modules.

This product demonstrates how DW has made best use of in-house capabilities and knowledge together with its extensive aviation contacts to provide the optimum solution to the entire aviation community in the shortest possible time.
